Thursday afternoon VMS held our Pink Out Rally. Students took part in several games, and some fun awards were presented. Cancer survivors and those who continue to battle cancer were also recognized. The National Junior Honor Society and Student Council presented Relay For Life Chairman Marilyn Ramirez a $200 donation. Mrs. Ramirez offered her thanks for the donation.

On Wednesday, VMS students in the Gifted & Talented program took a field trip to Wichita Falls. The group started at Region 9, where they learned about the art of Yayoi Kusama and practiced her art style. They ate lunch at the park and then went to the River Bend Nature Center where they explored a riparian ecosystem with a "down by the river" experience.
8th grader Monica Soto was crowned Queen of the VMS Fall Festival and 7th grader Caylor Streit was crowned King during the Fall Festival, which was held Tuesday night. Other candidates included 6th Grade -- Kinsley Hamm & Colsyn Ivy; 7th Grade -- Caley Streit; and 8th Grade -- A.J. Ragland.
The Vernon Middle School "Pink Out" Pep Rally will be held this afternoon at 2:55 p.m., at the VMS Gym. Those who have won their fight with cancer and those currently battling cancer will be recognized, and a donation from the National Junior Honor Society, Student Council and VMS will be presented to Relay For Life.

We would love to have the home stands packed Friday night when our Lions tangle with the Jim Ned Indians in a HUGE district showdown. It is also Senior Recognition Night for members of the cheerleader squad, band and football team.
A King and Queen of the VMS Fall Festival will be crowned tomorrow, and the student body has elected candidates from each grade level. The candidates are: 6th Grade -- Kinsley Ham & Colsyn Ivy; 7th Grade -- Caley Streit & Caylor Streit; and 8th Grade -- Monica Soto & A.J. Ragland. The King & Queen will be crowned at 7 p.m., tomorrow night at the VMS Fall Festival. The festival begins at 5:30 p.m. and will continue until 7:30 p.m.

Next week is Red Ribbon Week and the theme this year is "Be Kind to Your Mind. Live Drug-Free." VMS has something planned for every day next week as they take part in the national drug awareness campaign.
Tomorrow is Football Friday which means PTO members will be at McCord, Vernon Elementary and Middle School ready to do some face painting during lunch periods! Students pay $1 to have their face painted. This is a fundraiser for the PTO, with all money going right back to benefit the students.
