The students studying Newton's 3 laws of motion, and create these Newton Cradles to demonstrate Newton's 3rd Law (Action-Reaction). Some of the students were very creative.

Vernon ISD is currently taking nominations for our Gifted and Talented Program, which we have on each school campus. However, some parents may not exactly know what our Gifted and Talented Program is all about and if their child should be nominated. We are holding a parent information meeting for our Gifted and Talented Program at 6 p.m., Thursday, at the VHS Media Center. If you have questions about our GT Program, please join us.
It's that time of year, and nothing can get you in the Christmas spirit faster than music!! Join us Tuesday night for our VISD Band Program Christmas Concert featuring performances by our 6th Grade Band, 7th Grade Band, and our Roarin' Lion Band!
As we transition from the football field to the confines of a gym, we would like to thank our Lion fans for the spirit you show and your support of our sports programs. We would also like to remind everyone that if you are ejected from any UIL athletic event, you are banned from all District 7-3A athletic events for an entire calendar year. This is a District 7-3A rule that all members of the district adhere to and support. #ProudtobeaLION

Over the Thanksgiving break, two members of our VMS Student Council -- Joy Hogan and Julian Rodriguez -- volunteered to be bell ringers for the Salvation Army's Red Kettle stationed at United Supermarket. The Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign continues into mid-December, with Red Kettles stationed at United and Wal-Mart.

Winners of the VMS Teacher Turkey Tournament were: Most Creative -- Mr. Spencer, Ms. Boswell and Ms. Flores; and Most Feathers -- Coach Brown, Coach Patterson and Ms. Williams.
Our teachers participated in a fun Turkey Tournament prior to the Thanksgiving Break. The teachers were split into teams and they had to make a turkey using feathers they found hidden around the campus. Teachers could also earn feathers in a couple of different ways, including writing a "thankful" note to someone or about something at VMS. There were some great entries.
Friday morning, Vernon ISD administrators and VISD board trustees visited campuses and distributed Covid Retention Stipend checks to all staff members so they would have the funds for shopping over the Thanksgiving Break. Vernon ISD started its Thanksgiving Break today. School will resume on Nov. 27.

The VMS Student Council is starting a food drive today that will continue until Dec. 8. The canned food that is collected will go to the Cupboard by Grace. The public is invited to donate to the food drive.
Three VMS band members -- Kenzie Bennett, Flor Ortega and Gia Castillo -- auditioned for the Middle School All-District Band on Saturday at Hirschi High School in Wichita Falls. Kenzie and Flor are eighth graders, and Kenzie plays trumpet, while Flor plays tuba, and Gia is a seventh grader and plays clarinet.
Flor not only made the All-District band, she will be 1st chair tuba!!! The All-District Band performs Dec. 9, at Wichita Falls High School. Congrats to all for trying out and a big WELL DONE to Flor!! Great job!
