VMS students in Emily Richey's art classes are having fun designing and making pinatas as a way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Students were put into groups and then had to work together to decide what their pinata was going to be. They are currently working on making the pinatas. Some designs include a Minion; a Creeper from Minecraft; a slice of watermelon; and Bevo's building. A panel of judges will judge the pinatas on May 12. Winning teams from each grade -- 6th, 7th & 8th -- will win an ice cream party.

Members of our VMS band program were busy competing during the month of April. Earlier this month the 7th and 8th Grade Cat Band competed in their annual UIL Concert/Sight Reading Contest. They earned a Division 2 (Excellent) rating from the three Concert judges. Their concert selections were "Kitty Hawk March", "Ming Court" and "Shepherd's Hey." The Cat Band then went to the Sight Reading Room and earned another Division 2 (Excellent) rating from the three Sight Reading judges.
This past Saturday, some members of the Cat Band took part in the Decatur Invitational Spring Band Festival, where they performed in front of one judge and an audience. They earned a Division 1 (Superior) rating at the festival.
CONGRATULATIONS!!! To our VMS Cat Band!!
