
The District 3-3A, Div. 1 All-District Team was released Friday night after all district teams were eliminated from the playoffs. A total of 14 Vernon Lions made the team. Making the all-district second team offense were Kameron Plyler at tight end, Andrew Hernandez at offensive lineman, and Keigan Ballard at offensive lineman. Making the all-district second team defense was Adrian Felton at defensive lineman.

Making the all-district first team on offense were Kale Sherrill at quarterback and Ismael Urista at offensive lineman. Making the all-district first team on defense were Shyne Rodriguez at defensive lineman, Johnny Pruitt at inside linebacker and Nick Guzman at inside linebacker.

Those five included: Adarius Williams, First Team Running Back & Defensive Back; Jevon Fanner, First Team Fullback & Outside Linebacker; Ty Scott, First Team Safety & Kick Returner and Second Team Receiver; Julius Dawkins, First Team Punter & Second Team Defensive Back; and Case Fleming, Second Team Wide Receiver & Outside Linebacker.

Friday morning, Vernon ISD administrators and VISD board trustees visited campuses and distributed Covid Retention Stipend checks to all staff members so they would have the funds for shopping over the Thanksgiving Break. Vernon ISD started its Thanksgiving Break today. School will resume on Nov. 27.



A quick reminder that all VISD campuses will operate on their Early Release Friday schedules. Class will be dismissed next week for the Thanksgiving Break, with classes resuming on Nov. 27.


66 VHS students enjoyed a trip to the Plaza Theater this morning as a reward for having no tardies, no absences, no failing grades and no discipline issues for the 2nd 6 weeks of school. VHS paid for the movie, along with popcorn and drink for each student. 120 students qualified for the incentive trip.





This morning, the Culinary Arts class was hard at working preparing the turkey and ham for the staff's Thanksgiving luncheon that is being held today. The class cooked the turkey and ham, with staff members providing the side dishes and desserts.






On Monday, our VHS Congressional Debate team competed at the regional competition in Wichita Falls. Zachary Sanchez finished 4th and qualified as the 1st State alternate, while Jacob Brown finished 6th and qualified as the 3rd State alternate. Three more team members finished in the Top 15, with Logan Luster placing 7th, Logan Wehrwein placing 9th, and Madyson Zamaro-Raines placing 11th. Rounding out the team were Kenneth Cordero and Alexandrea Orton.
On Tuesday, coach Dustin Swatzell learned that someone who had qualified for the State Meet will not be able to attend, so Zachary will be competing at State!!



Representatives from Balfour were at Vernon High School today for students to order senior rings and letter jackets. The media center was busy for most of the morning and early afternoon, as most junior and senior students stopped by to either order a class ring or letter jacket, or both.








This morning, the VISD Superintendent Advisory Council held their second meeting of the year and heard a presentation from Nancy Richey on the Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign. She discussed how funds from the campaign are used and how the program operates with the help of volunteers who give their time to be the bell ringers during the campaign. Members of the advisory council decided to volunteer to take a turn at being bell ringers, and to take the information back to high school and encourage classmates to also volunteer. The students serving on the council also received their Student Advisory Council t-shirts.



VISD campuses will be on their early release schedules Friday as we dismiss for our Thanksgiving break. Classes will resume on Monday, Nov. 27.

Last Friday, VHS students from the Opportunity Center and senior economic students received a tour of the Vernon College campus. The students were able to visit the classrooms and student dorms, and were able to talk with instructors of the different technical programs. Here are just a few pics from the tour.
