Select parents of students in our Special Education Program will be receiving an email about a survey in which Vernon ISD is federally required to participate. We encourage those who are selected to complete the survey. Your feedback directly impacts how VISD improves special education services; supports students and families; and recognizes areas of strength across our district.

The Vernon Tennis Camp is scheduled for June 1-4, at the Ruben Vargas Tennis Courts, with additional courts at Vernon College being used if there are enough campers. Those campers 3 to 10 years of age will have camp three days (June 1-3), while campers from age 11 to 18 will have camp for four days (June 1-4). Registration can only be done online by scanning the QR code below. The deadline to register is May 29.

The Vernon All-Star Olympics are being held Friday at the Boys & Girls Club. Students in pre-kindergarten thru high school from Vernon, Crowell and Quanah will be competing in track and field events, and will also be enjoying games and other activities at a fun station. Vernon is expecting close to 60 students to be participating in the event. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with Opening Ceremonies scheduled for 9 a.m. Pre-K thru fifth grade students will begin competing at 9:15 a.m., while the sixth grade thru high school students will be at the fun station. At 10:15 a.m. they switch, with the older students competing in the track and field events and the younger students enjoying the fun station. Closing ceremonies are scheduled for 11:45 a.m. The event is open to the public and there will be a concession stand available for snacks.

During Monday night's board meeting Vernon ISD recognized our Teachers of the Year and Staff Members of the Year. Selected by their peers as Teachers of the Year were: Kristen Chavira, McCord Elementary; Kelli Coble, Vernon Elementary; Brady Parum, Middle School; Libbi Garnett, High School; and Shawn Gill, NTSH-AFP. Our Staff Members of the Year were: Sandra Edwards, McCord Elementary; Kathy Harlin, Vernon Elementary; Quinton Porter, Middle School; Hilda Moreno, High School; and Josie King, Wilbarger Shared Services Agreement. The district, along with the board of trustees, appreciate the hard work of these teachers and staff during this 2025-26 school year.

Receiving our VMS Students of the Week honors for last week (April 13-20) are: 6th Grade -- Diamond Gavin & Ismael Benitez; 7th Grade -- Blair Jasso & Kyaw Pay; and 8th Grade -- Payzlee Brannon & Roberto Martin. Congratulations!! Keep up the good work!!

As we head into the final Six Weeks of the 2025-26 school year, we want to let everyone know Vernon ISD will be operating on our original school calendar, which means no school on May 4 & 11. Also please remember we will have an early release on May 13 for the Santa Rosa Rodeo Parade, and on May 21, the last day of school.

Vernon ISD is currently experiencing an outage with our phone system. We are actively working with our carrier to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and restore service. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

It was the guys' lucky day when we drew for the VMS Attendance Prize for the 5th Six Weeks of school. Winning the mystery box prizes were: Elias Trejo, 6th Grade; Logan Ware, 7th Grade; and Jay Athwal, 8th Grade. Great job to these three students and all of our students who make attending school a priority and strive for perfect attendance!!

A big CONGRATULATIONS to our Teacher and Staff Member of the Year for 2025-26!! Receiving the Teacher of the Year honor is Brady Parum, who teaches 7th and 8th grade Science. Our Staff Member of the Year is Quinton Porter, an instructional aide. Thank you to them both for working hard for our students each and every day.

Earning our Student of the Week honor last week (April 6-10) were: 6th Grade -- Kendall Balderas & Brazos Eakin; 7th Grade -- Trinity Villarreal & George King; and 8th Grade -- Kenli Kajs & Daniel Hai (not pictured). Congratulations!! Great job!!

This week is National Assistant Principal Week and Vernon ISD has some outstanding assistant principal at our campuses!! All of them are a great asset to their principal, and the staff and students on their campuses. They consistently go the extra mile, and Vernon ISD would just like them to know their work is noticed and greatly appreciated!

Congratulations to our VMS Teacher and Staff Member of the Month for March -- Donna Thornton and Jennifer Walker, RN. Mrs. Thornton is our Resource Math & Science teacher, while Mrs. Walker is our school nurse. They both are excellent at what they do and always go above and beyond for our students and their co-workers. Thank you both for helping make our VMS campus special!

We still have 6 weeks left of the school year, but it's never too early to start putting events on your summer schedule!!! The Champs Volleyball Camp will be held June 9-June 11 at D.O. Fulton Gym. The camp is open to incoming kindergartners thru incoming freshmen. There will be two camp sessions --incoming sixth thru ninth graders will be in one session, with incoming kindergartners to fifth graders in another session.

Selected as our Students of the Week for last week (March 30-April 3) were: 6th Grade -- Kryleigh Perkins & Jacob Montoya; 7th Grade -- Evanny Quintero & Braxton Nail; and 8th Grade -- Khloe Zamora & Cooper Copeland. Congratulations!! Keep up the great work!

Yesterday, VMS & VHS PTO coordinated a flower bar to show their appreciation for the second-to-last six weeks! 🌸
A big thank you to Amanda Lehman with Texas Farm Bureau Insurance for donating the vases, and to Flower Boutique along with Brian & Karen Bayer for providing the beautiful flowers.

Our 7th Grade and 8th Grade girls' track teams did well when they competed earlier this year at the Seymour Jr. High Track meet and the Burkburnett Jr. High Track Meet. The 8th Grade girls finished second in the team standings at Seymour and third at Burkburnett, while the 7th Grade girls finished 3rd at the Seymour meet.
