Our VMS football teams hosted their counterparts from Boyd last night at Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium, and both the 7th grade and 8th grade team picked up victories.
The 7th grade team claimed a 36-0 victory to remain undefeated with a record of 7-0. Brazos Eakin scored three rushing touchdowns of 57 yards, 24 yards and 1 yard, while Ryker Wilson added a 24-yard TD on the ground. Wilson also helped lead the defense with a fumble recovery, while Nehemiah Lin returned another fumble 42 yards for touchdown.
The 8th grade team picked up a 32-16 victory to improve their record to 3-4 for the year. Jakaiden White scored on a 14-yard run and also hit Isaiah Boyd with a 5-yard touchdown pass, and he returned an interception 92 yards for a defensive score. Arion McCoy also had a 39-yard touchdown run.

A parent meeting for those who have daughters planning to play middle school and/or high school Lady Lions basketball this year has been scheduled for 6 p.m., Wednesday, at D.O. Fulton Gym. Lady Lions Head Coach Carlynn Murguia and her staff will be on hand to go over important program information and answer any questions you may have.
After picking up their first District 4-3A, D1 victory of the season at home last Friday against Bowie, the Lions hit the road looking for district win number 2 and to solidify their spot in the playoffs this week. Vernon travels to Boyd to square off against the Yellowjackets who will be battling to stay alive for the playoffs. Our VMS football teams traveled to Bowie yesterday and went 1-1 in their two football games. The seventh grade team remained undefeated, as they dropped their Bowie foes, 22-0. Offensive leaders were Brazos Eakin with a 48-yard touchdown run; Gavin Bayer with an 80-yard scoring run and a 50-yard TD pass to Ryker Wilson. Mathew Servin came a way with an interception, and Kater Gee blocked a punt. The seventh grade team is now 6-0.

Tomorrow the theme for the Lions Football Pep Rally is "Pink Out" and our VHS cheerleaders would like to invite those who are currently fighting breast cancer; breast cancer survivors; and those who have lost family members to breast cancer to be their special guests at the pep rally. There will be a designated section reserved for our special guests. The pep rally will begin tomorrow at 3:25 p.m.

What to start your Halloween fun early! Come on out to McCord Elementary and participate in the McCord PTO Trick-or-Treat 5K! Prizes will be awarded for Best Individual Costume; Best Family Costume; and to the winner of the 5K. There will also be a Little Monsters Fun Run prior to the 5K. Registration and check in will be in McCord's South Parking Lot. Entry fee is $10 for individuals and $20 for families. The fun starts at 9 a.m., on Halloween. Water and snacks will be provided to participants.

After taking a break last week our Lions are back on the gridiron this Friday, as they host the Bowie Jackrabbits in a big District 4-3A, Division 1 battle right here at Leo Brittain Field at Lion Stadium. Both teams are searching for their first district victory of the season, and the winner of this game will have the inside track to the playoffs. Tomorrow we will be hosting our VMS Fall Festival!! There will be plenty of game booths inside the school, with a few game booths outside, and our haunted house, along with the concession stand, will be in the gym. There will also be a Chicken Spaghetti supper in the cafeteria. Come on out and have some fun, win some prizes!! Funds from the Fall Festival go toward our student incentives and student trips.
Congratulations to our Roarin' Lion Band for earning a Division 2 (Excellent) rating Saturday afternoon at the UIL Region 7 Marching Contest held at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls. Bands receive ratings from the three contest judges. The Roarin' Lion Band earned one Division 1 (Superior) rating and two Division 2 ratings, which made their overall rating a Division 2. Outstanding job!! We're proud of our Roarin' Lion Band!!
Earning VHS Lady Lions Standouts honors for the first half of the second six weeks of school were Payzlee Brannon and Jocelyn Cordoba. Coach Sally Reeves cited the two Lady Lions for showing up, putting in the work, encouraging others, and improving every day, along with being standouts in the classroom. She said the coaches were proud of their effort, attitude, and leadership.

Vernon ISD's Fall Break begins Thursday (Oct. 15), with campuses operating on their early release schedules, and continues thru Monday, Oct. 19. School resumes on its normal schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 20. All district offices and campuses will be closed during the Fall Break. We hope all of our students and their families, and district employees enjoy their long weekend!
Here's a great opportunity to support Texoma Alliance to Stop Abuse, as well as honor victims of domestic violence and support survivors. Also, October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and TASA is encouraging everyone to wear purple on Thursday.
