The Vernon Middle School girls track teams placed at several track meets this as they prepared for the district meet, which wraps up the season.
At the Seymour Jr. High Track Meet, the 8th grade girls finished second in the team race, while the 7th grade girls finished third in their division.
In the 8th Grade division at the Seymour Meet, Vernon took first place in four events. Marabel Lagunas won the 100-meter Hurdles, while Payzlee Brannon won the Triple Jump, Bryn Gardner won the 300-meter Hurdles, and the 800-meter Relay team of Mayzie Kemp, Jaelynn Valderrama, Kenli Kajs, and Praylee Patterson took the title.
The Sprint Relay team of Kajs, Lagunas, Valderrama, and Patterson finished second, along with 1600-meter Relay team of Yareli Espinoza, Kemp, Brannon, and Kajs. Also finishing second were Kynsleigh Hamm in the 1600-meter Run, Brannon in the 100-meter Hurdles, and Yaryxel Fernandez in the 100-meter Dash.
Collecting bronze medals were Hamm in the 2400-meter Run, Sophia Perez in the 400-meter Dash, Jahneela Torres in the 300-meter Hurdles, and Kemp in the 200-meter Dash.
In the 7th Grade Division, our Vernon girls had two event champs, with Braelyn Derwin winning the 100-meter Hurdles and Lily Hamby winning the 400-meter Dash.
Both the Sprint Relay and Mile Relay teams finished second. Members of the Sprint Relay were Azaria Copeland, Braelyn Derwin, Jaylynn Lira, and Aaliyah Hampton, while running on the Mile Relay were Chloe Feltman, Hampton, Derwin, and Lira.
Kendree Isenhower also had a second-place finish in the 200-meter Dash.
Earning third place points for the Vernon squad were Veva Finnegan in the 2400-meter Run and Copeland in the 400-meter Dash.
At the Burkburnett Jr. High Meet, our 8th Grade girls finished third in the team standings. All three of the relay teams collected silver medals by finishing second.
Members of the Sprint Relay team were Kajs, Valderrama, Lagunas, and Patterson, while running on the 800-meter Relay team were Kemp, Valderrama, Kajs and Patterson. The Mile Relay team was comprised of Kajs, Kemp, Torres, and Patterson.
Collecting third place medals at the Burkburnett meet were Hamm in both the 1600-meter Run and the 2400-meter Run, Espinoza in the 800-meter Run, Brannon in the Triple Jump, and Kemp in the Discus.
